This generator controller can be connected to a single phase generator to automatically start in case of mains failure. However, an automatic transfer switch connected to the controller is required to transfer the power source. It is important to note that a professional installation is recommended to avoid personal injuries, and equipment damage. The start button is connected to necessary internal circuits, including sensors (if any), starter motor, ignition, alternator, mains, etc. It can be used with a portable generator having electric start. The method of shutting down the generator depends on the type of generator. If it is a gasoline generator, then the ignition system is controlled. If it is a diesel generator, then it is controlled via the fuel solenoid. This model cannot be used for solar backup power purposes. However, the SmartGen HGM7110DC DC Genset Controller can be used instead. The controller has a remote start input that can be connected to any temperature sensor/relay to start or stop the genset at a certain temperature value.
