Private Sessions [DVD]

**** The customer experience surrounding this DVD release, which features a compelling television pilot, has encountered significant hurdles due to regional encoding issues. Many viewers have expressed disappointment, particularly those in the USA who found that the DVD could not be played on their standard DVD players, as it was encoded for Region 2 (Europe). This technical limitation left some potential viewers unable to enjoy the film at all, despite its powerful narrative and engaging performances. The film itself has received praise for its portrayal of profound psychological themes, tackling subjects like childhood trauma and parental betrayal. The lead character, Dr. Joe Braden, portrayed by Mike Farrell, garners appreciation for his nuanced performance as a therapist deeply invested in his patients’ lives, albeit the plot's resolutions are critiqued for lacking depth. The supporting cast, which includes notable actors like Kelly McGillis and Maureen Stapleton, also earns commendations for their roles, particularly highlighting McGillis’s standout performance shortly after her acclaimed turn in "Witness." While the film's direction and cinematography have been positively noted, the DVD lacks bonus features and offers only a basic scene index, which may leave some viewers wanting more. Overall, for those able to watch it without technical barriers, the film presents an impactful exploration of complex issues, though it may not meet the satisfaction of viewers expecting a fully packed DVD experience. **
