Murder Editorial Review
**Editorial Review of "Bad Men: A Novel"** "Bad Men" by Julie Mae Cohen offers readers a refreshing twist on the serial killer genre, combining elements of dark humor, romance, and suspense. Centered around Seraphina “Saffy” Huntley-Oliver, a glamorous socialite with a secret life of eliminating bad men, the narrative keeps readers engaged with its light-hearted yet thrilling premise. Readers appreciate the book's fast pace, making it an ideal choice for those looking for an entertaining beach read rather than a deep psychological thriller. The interplay between Saffy and John, a true crime podcaster, adds layers to the story, though the balance between thriller and romance may not cater to everyone’s expectations. Some readers were hoping for more of a thriller focus on Saffy as a serial killer, rather than her romantic pursuits and John’s perspective dominating the narrative. Despite this, the alternating viewpoints enrich the storytelling, though they may lead some readers to feel that Saffy’s character could have been explored more deeply. Cohen’s writing shines with sharp, powerful dialogue, and readers have praised the strength of the protagonist, viewing her as a morally complex character driven by her own ethics. There's a good balance of humor and tension, making it difficult to put down. While the feminist themes present some contradictions within character actions, overall, the enjoyable premise, quick plot progression, and engaging protagonist make "Bad Men" a compelling read. However, potential readers should note that the book may not fully satisfy those looking for a heavy exploration of serial killer psychology or a particularly intense thriller. With its mix of suspense and a touch of romance, this novel is aiming for entertainment rather than a chilling dive into darkness. **
