Mystery & Thrillers Editorial Review
The "Murder! Special Edition" Blu-ray is a restoration of Alfred Hitchcock's 1930 film and its German counterpart, "Mary". The English version features Herbert Marshall and Norah Baring, while the German version stars Alfred Abel and Olga Tschechowa. Both films are included on the disc with audio commentary from film critic Nick Pinkerton on "Murder!". The BFI restoration is not pristine but looks better than ever, despite the German version being "Up-res" with some footage missing. There is no Hitchcock cameo in the German version, and the English version has a highly offensive explanation of the killer's motive. The Blu-ray features Wagner and Beethoven's Fifth Symphony in the opening titles, but no other movie music, typical for 1930. The editorial review suggests that the film is worthwhile, especially for old movie buffs.
