Action & Adventure Editorial Review
**** "SHE" (1965) stands as a unique gem among fantasy films, blending adventure with a touch of humor and romance. Based on H. Rider Haggard's classic novel, the film attracts audiences with its quirky yet endearing narrative filled with absurdity and kitsch. The premise revolves around a scorned lover who meticulously preserves her deceased beau, engaging in a wild escapade to retrieve his reincarnated self. As told through the journey of three hapless adventurers traversing the desert, their encounters with various characters—including the powerful and beautiful Ayesha (Ursula Andress)—entice viewers into a realm where danger, love, and comedy collide. The performances of iconic actors Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee add gravitas to the film. However, the humor lies in the intentional campiness and the occasionally ludicrous visual effects, echoing cinematic styles of the 1960s. Ursula Andress firmly captures attention, her enchanting presence likened to her beach scene from the James Bond franchise. The film’s technical quality is noted as being typical of its time, boasting a decent video output for a DVD-R format, despite not being suitable for showcasing high-definition setups. While younger audiences might struggle to overlook the film's outdated aesthetics, seasoned viewers appreciate its nostalgic charm. The moral undertones—cautioning against the follies of ambition and desire—provide a thoughtful backdrop to the otherwise light-hearted adventure. Ultimately, SHE is an entertaining escape into a fantastical world, filled with memorable moments and laughter-inducing silliness. **
