From the moment Jamie Foxx throws off a filthy, tattered blanket to reveal a richly muscled back crisscrossed with long scars, it's obvious that Django Unchained will be both true to its exploitation roots but also clear-eyed about the misery that's being exploited.

Westerns Editorial Review
Django Unchained [DVD] is Quentin Tarantino's audacious blend of spaghetti western and blaxploitation film. This movie showcases standout performances, especially from Jaime Foxx as Django and Christoph Waltz as Dr. King Schultz, whose camaraderie and dynamic character arcs are captivating. The film features a striking visual style, with beautiful cinematography that ranges from serene snow-capped mountains to stark southern plantations, cleverly punctuated by a gritty soundtrack. Notably, there's an homage to practical effects in the portrayal of violence, steering away from CGI blood in favor of the traditional approach seen in classic cinematic style. This results in an entertaining yet exaggerated depiction of vengeance and justice within a revenge thriller.
