The load cell works equally well in compression and extension and uses an amplifier to process the output into a 0-5V range. The load cell outputs a 2mv voltage signal at full scale, making it an accurate weighing solution. The bolt thread size is M16 X 2.0. Customers have found it easy to use with an Arduino and sparkfun HX711 to display the weight on an LCD.
