Sir John Barbirolli (Artist) Format: Audio CD Classical Editorial Review
Complete Warner Recordings presents an exceptional collection of John Barbirolli's work across 109 CDs, offering a rich tapestry of orchestral and concerti performances. Reviewers praise the sound quality, even from the earliest 78 rpm recordings, highlighting the emotional depth Barbirolli brings to compositions by Vaughan Williams and Sibelius. Many listeners appreciate the organization of the box set into orchestral works, concerti, and operatic recordings, providing a comprehensive exploration of Barbirolli's conducting prowess. However, some concerns arise regarding the packaging, particularly the lack of a detailed disc listing, which can make navigation challenging. Despite this, the extraordinary remastering and heartfelt interpretations compensated for the packaging flaws, making it a worthy addition to classical music enthusiasts' collections.
