The keyboard does not have an escape key but the first key in the first row is equivalent to Home. The battery status of the keyboard can be seen by the power status lighting up in red when it has no batteries. The charger port is micro-USB and a USB cable is included for charging. It is compatible with a 6th generation iPad and works with the most recent iPhones such as iPhone 11 and 12 Pro. The keyboard is not battery-operated and does not require AAA batteries. It is compatible with Kindle Fire if it is Bluetooth compatible.
